The UK Government made it compulsory for all international arrivals to the UK to take a COVID-19 PCR test on or before Day 2 of a 10-day quarantine period, followed by a second test on or after Day 8.
The day you arrive in the UK is Day 0.
Every test kit includes clear instructions and labels to return the sample using the Royal Mail Tracked 24 Returns COVID-19 service. Samples may be returned using any of the 32,000 convenient Royal Mail Priority Post-boxes, as shown on the Royal Mail services near you page. Just click “Show my nearest priority post-boxes” before you search.
This service aims to deliver the next day (excluding Sunday).
Typically, the lab will send you the results within 12 hours of receiving the sample, but it can take a maximum of 24 hours.
The official results certificate is emailed to you directly from the lab as soon as it is available.
If you test positive for Covid-19, you are required to self-isolate for 10 days from the day of your test date. The 10-day self-isolation will apply to everyone living and/or travelling with you. This quarantine period is mandatory regardless of symptoms being present or not.
If your Day 2 test result is positive, your sample may be subject to genome sequencing in order to discern any Covid-19 variants. This preventive measure aims to stop new variants from entering the UK.
Further advice will be provided with your test results.
As per government guidelines, if you purchased a Day 2 and 8 Travel Package, you must still complete the 10-day self-isolation period if you received both negative results before this 10 day period is over.
